Yappy Birthday

In 2010 I participated in an event called ‘CardStock’ which brought together artists,writers, and musicians to collaborate and compete in a 48 hour eCard challenge. The challenge was to create an animated eCard that was 10 seconds in length and followed the theme ‘Happy Birthday’. The event was a huge success which brought in over 40 entries from the US, Bucharest, and Madrid.

“Yappy Birthday” was the card that I designed and animated which won 2nd place in the ‘Best Animation’ category. I wanted to create something lively and fun in the little time that I had and thought a dog was the perfect subject.

This Halloween eCard was created for Americangreetings.com. Witch’s Brew is one of my favorite cards I have worked on. I created all of the animation (except for the 3D ghost) in adobe flash. I was very happy with the way the hand drawn effects came out and the overall look and feel. The background art was created by Andreas Rocha based off of a layout sketch I provided which was then animated over top of.

This birthday eCard was created for Bluemountain.com. I animated and designed this eCard in Abode flash which also features a down-loadable interactive desktop application where you can play with the puppy on anytime you like. The desktop app features over 20 different dog animations where you can dress, wash, feed, play, and have fun with your very own puppy right on your desktop.

This animated eCard was based on last year’s penguin claymation that I worked on for americangreetings.com. I was responsible for the 2D animation and layouts that served as a guide for the animator during the stop motion process. This year’s card was art directed by Kevin Carr and animated by Pete Levin.

This animated eCard was created for americangreetings.com. I had a lot of fun working on this project and I couldn’t of asked for a better team to be a part of. I created the character designs, storyboards and a full 2D animation which was used as frame by frame reference. An AG artist sculptured clay models based off of the designs and posed the characters with stop motion animation to match the frames to the 2D animation. After the stop motion animation was completed I took the photos and composited them in After Effects where Special effects were also created to bring it all together. This project was truly a great team effort consisting of the team of: Tom Page(Art Direction), Seth Larson(Set Design) ,Theresa Muri(Clay Sculptor/Animation), Rich Bogart(Photography/Lighting) and myself. This was one of the top cards for Christmas in 2008 on Americangreetings.com
